Youth THRIVE Jump Start! introduces a research-informed framework to create an environment in your school, organization or community that enables young people to thrive.
Research conducted at the National Resilience Institute over the past seven years is powerfully demonstrating that when we create environments for young people that are characterized by six essential elements, we increase positive outcomes in a wide range of areas such as social emotional skills and school success – and we decrease risk behaviors such as bullying, use of illegal substances, and withdrawal from others.
In this Workshop, you will learn:
-
The impact that trauma has on a child’s developing brain and how that influences behavior.
-
Trauma-sensitive ways to interact with youth and others.
-
The importance of self-awareness, self-regulation, self-care and self-mastery for those who work with young people.
-
How to examine the role that relationships played in your own development, and how that might be continuing to impact your relationships with others.
-
The THRIVE Resilience Model™ framework and the research behind it.
-
Outcomes connected to the THRIVE framework.
-
Applications and inspirations from using the THRIVE framework in a variety of settings.
-
Next steps towards developing a comprehensive plan for your organization to better support young people to identify, grow, and share their strengths.
Implementing the THRIVE framework will positively change the climate of your school or organization. You will walk away equipped to be more intentional, inclusive, and effective in building relationships that strengthen young people.
Who Should Attend? While we welcome all adults who want to learn more about using positive youth development research to grow stronger youth, we strongly encourage you to attend as a team of two or more people from your school, youth program, or other youth serving organization. This might include administrators, educators, counselors, community leaders, mentors, parent volunteers, or faith-based leaders.
